5/28/2018 Kim’s blog post
We went jeeping today on County Rd 31. I know I usually exaggerate, but when I say that the county roads are not maintained like our county roads that’s exactly what I mean. I didn’t think some of them had been traveled before. 🚙. We went up to some old mines and played in the dirt for about an hour, then went riding about four hours. That gold and metal detector had us on a wild goose chase. I thought I’d be making me a necklace before the day was out. Oh no!!! I think we must have been hitting on gold dust! But Ole Jeff was not giving up. I had to pull out my chair and have a seat and a snack. I was protecting him and he didn’t even know it. I was bear watching!! We always have fun! Look at gold miner Jeff go!!

Yankee Girl Mine
Ouray has over 500 miles of 4-wheel drive trails earning the title of Jeep capital of the world.
These are just a few of the old mines that dot the trails.
The snow is melting and some of the trails are a little muddy and slick but still passable.
Riding into Ouray from the south
The short version.
Kim getting nervous.
Short video of ride today. We have a lot of video from the GoPro just haven’t got it edited for YouTube. We are working on it but need a 13 year old to show us how to do it.
Hit the Jeep trails today.
We hit the Jeep trails this morning. Stopped by a few of the old abandoned gold mines. Kim and I scratched around looking for a couple of nuggets but we about froze to death. We had to get back in the Jeep to warm up.
Kim was getting concerned about the trails being washed out and how deep the creeks were that we had to cross. Then it started snowing again but she was ok because we had food and water this time. We started back down the mountain, Kim wouldn’t let me keep going up. She said we were over 11,000 feet and she couldn’t breathe. The curves in the road and going up and down wore her out. She said she needed a nap to recoup.

5/27/18 Ouray around town.
Ouray was a mining town back in the 1800’s. You can find old mining equipment all around town. Seeing the equipment and where they used it is unbelievable. Back then, they made equipment to last for over a hundred years or longer.
